2026 Lifeguard Training Courses offered by the Village of Kohler Recreation Department, Barry Martin, Instructor Basic Lifeguard Course (two classes scheduled) Class 1 Thursday, April 9, 5 pm to 9 pm Friday, April 10, 5 pm to 9 pm Saturday, April 11, 9 am to 6 pm Sunday, April 12, Noon to 5 pm (if needed) Class 2 Thursday, June 4, 5 pm to 9 pm Friday, June 5, 5 pm to 9 pm Saturday, June 6, 9 am to 6 pm Sunday, June 6, Noon to 5 pm (if needed) There are 3 main components to the lifeguard training course: 1. Swimming & Skills Test ·Must be completed prior to the in-person class. · Skills Test Components o Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence: Jump into the water, submerge, resurface swim 150 yards (using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both), maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs, then swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. o Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 11 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards 2. Online Learning Approximately 6 hours of videos, scenarios, and practice questions. Must be completed prior to the start of in-person classes 3. In-Person Classes Candidates must attend all 4 in-person classes for your session. Candidates must pass (80%) the written exam administered at the end of the in-person class, Summary of Lifeguard Class Requirements Complete all online coursework and lessons on Red Cross Website (approx 6 hours) Attend all in-person training dates and times Pass Red Cross Lifeguard written test and physical skills test All candidates must be at 15 years of age at the completion of the in-person class to obtain their Red Cross Certification.
