Not sure if you’re ready for the American Red Cross lifeguard pre-test? This prep class is designed to build the strength, stamina, and confidence you need to succeed. Practice the swim-tread-swim sequence, timed brick retrieval, and essential water skills while improving your technique in a supportive, coached environment. It’s the perfect step for swimmers who want to feel prepared and ready for the official lifeguard certification course. Before taking the official lifeguard class, all participants must complete the following test:- Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest: o Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.)o Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.o Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
- Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: o Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.)o Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.o Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.o Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
This class is designed to help increase participants’ stamina, work on treading, and practice diving and swimming with a 10-pound brick. Participants will build confidence in the required skills, receive coaching and feedback, and leave better prepared to successfully complete the lifeguard pre-test.
