Expectations:
This class is meant for those who have passed Level 2 or possess the prerequisite skills listed below
3-5 minutes at the beginning of each lesson is dedicated to safety topics and attendance
The first few days will be spent reviewing skills already known and refining them
Flotation aids such as noodles, barbells, or other flotation devices will be regularly used
Most activities will be done as a group and students will be swimming longer distances
This class will take place in the deep end
Almost all actions will be done independently of instructor and some may be refined with the assistance of flotation aids with the instructor closely monitoring
This class will focus on turning beginner swim motions in to actual coordinated swim strokes
What skills they should already know:
Backstroke - basic kicking and arm movements while on the back
Front crawl - basic kicking and arm movements while on the front with the face in
Treading water - staying vertical in the water and maintaining the head above the surface while in deep water
Completely comfortable with submerging and swimming with the face in the water
Confident in independent movements in the water
What skills they will learn:
Elementary backstroke - frog kick on back and simultaneous arm movement
Breaststroke - frog kick on front and simultaneous arm movement with submerged face
Backstroke - refinement on coordination
Front crawl - refinement on coordination and basic breathing techniques
Scissor kick - the beginning of side stroke
Dolphin kick - the beginning of butterfly
Beginner level diving from the side of the pool
