Expectations:
This class is meant for those who have passed Level 3 or possess the prerequisite skills listed below
3-5 minutes at the beginning of each lesson is dedicated to safety topics and attendance
The first few days will be spent reviewing skills already known and refining them
Flotation aids such as noodles, kickboards, or other flotation devices will be used
All activities will be done as a group
Students will be swimming much longer distances with shorter breaks to build endurance
Students will be doing multiple laps at a time
This class will take place in the deep end
All actions will be done independently of instructor and some may be refined with the assistance of flotation aids with the instructor closely monitoring
Class may include time devoted to turns and/or diving
This class will focus on learning two new strokes and refining those already learned as well as building endurance
What skills they should already know:
Backstroke - coordinated kick and arm movements
Front crawl - continuous kicking with coordinated arm movements, beginning knowledge of rotary breathing (breathing to the side)
Elementary backstroke - coordinated and simultaneous arm/leg movement
Breaststroke - coordinated and simultaneous arm/leg movement
Scissor kick
Butterfly kick
Basic diving techniques
What skills they will learn:
Sidestroke - scissor kick and arm motion while swimming on the side
Butterfly - butterfly kick with simultaneous arm movement above water
Refinement of backstroke, front crawl, elementary backstroke, and breaststroke
Intermediate level diving from the side of the pool
Basic swimming turns
