Description
Stage 4 (Stroke Introduction):
Students in this stage develop stroke techniques in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.
Stage 5 & 6(Stroke Development & Mechanics):
Students in this stage will learn and refine their techniques on all major competitive strokes. Emphasis on water safety will continue through treading water and resting strokes. Students will also learn about competitive swimming, and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle. Focus will also be on developing stamina and endurance, as well as skills related to competitive swimming such as flip turns.
Please note that children must be able to complete all prerequisites in order to qualify for this class, seen below.
Prerequisites:
Participants must be able to swim any stroke or combination of strokes for 25 yards, front crawl with rotary breathing for 15 yards, swim back crawl for 15 yards, and butterfly kick for 15 yards. They must also be able to perform a seated dive, resting stroke for 15 yards, and tread water for 1 minute using scissor and whip kicks.
Prerequisites: Participants must be able to submerge independently and retrieve an object in chest deep water. They must also be able to swim on their front and back for 10 yards, exit the pool independently, roll from back to front and front to back and tread water for 30 seconds and exit.
What Do I Need:
Please bring bathing suit, towel and goggles (recommended).
