Recommended for children 6 to 14 years old. The Litchfield Park Recreation Center has streamlined its registration process for youth group lessons. When registering for swim lessons all you need to do is choose the session date and time that works best for your schedule!
Our Aquatics team will make sure your child is placed in the correct level.
Session 1: June 1 - June 11, 2026 (Monday - Thursday classes)Session 2: June 15 - June 25, 2026 (Monday - Thursday classes) *Session 3: June 29 - July 9, 2026 (Monday - Thursday classes)Session 4: July 13 - July 23, 2026 (Monday - Thursday classes)*No classes will be held on holidays. Make-up classes will be held on the first Friday following the holiday.
On the first day of class, certified Starfish Swimming Instructors will run a quick skills assessment to evaluate your child's swimming skills. From there your child will be placed in the appropriate class, along with other similarly skilled children. All level classes will maintain a 1 instructor to 8-10 participants ratio and will be 30 minutes in length.
Level 1 Skill Assessment (must pass all to move into Level 2) -Ask permission before entering the water -Completely submerge, while relaxed, for 5 seconds (can be performed with assistance)
Level 2 Skill Assessment (must pass all to move into Level 3) -Put on a lifejacket, jump into chest-deep water, float on back, and kick 3m/10ft -Jump or roll into chest-deep water, get onto the back, and float for 5 seconds
Level 3 Skill Assessment (must pass all to move into Level 4) -Tread water for 10 seconds -Swim-roll-swim for 10m/30ft
Level 4 Skill Assessment (must pass all to move into Level 5) -Complete reach or throw assists with flotation -Side-roll-side with kick 10m/30ft
Level 5 Skill Assessment (must pass all to move into Level 6) -Tread water for 40 seconds -Complete a disorienting entry (sideways, backwards, shoulder first, etc.) and recover -Link 3 sets of 3 arm pulls, rolling to the side to breathe
Level 6 Skill Assessment -Swim 50 yards freestyle and 50 yards backstroke -Swim 25 yards butterfly and 25 yards breaststroke -Survival float for 2 minutes -Complete an open turn, freestyle flip turn, and backstroke flip turn -Perform a racing dive in at least 6ft of water
