About This Activity

Description

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding course prepares entry-level lifeguards with the knowledge and skills needed to:

  • Prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies
  • Provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies
  • Respond to injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel arrive
Course textbooks are included in the registration fee.

Eligibility

1. Participants must be at least 15 years old by the last day of the course.

2. Participants must successfully complete the following skills on the first day of class (or during the open interview noted below):

  • Swim–tread–swim sequence: Swim 150 yards continuously using the front crawl or breaststroke, tread water for two minutes without using your arms, and then swim an additional 50 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke. *Not timed.

  • Brick retrieval: Swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7–10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound diving brick, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards on your back to the starting point. This must be completed within 1 minute and 40 seconds. *Timed

Certification Requirements

To successfully complete the course, participants must:

  • Attend every class and be prepared to swim
  • Participate in all skill sessions, drills, activities, and scenarios
  • Demonstrate competency in all required skills and scenarios
  • Pass two final multiple-choice exams with a score of at least 80%
This course involved strenuous physical activity. Participants are encouraged to consult with a healthcare professional before enrolling. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification valid for two years.

Attend an open interview! Bring your employment application and your swimsuit during one of the following times/days:

  • Friday, October 9 | 10am–12pm & 4pm-6pm
  • Saturday, October 10 | 10am–12pm

If you receive a conditional job offer, you do not have to pay the registration fee for the course. If you successfully complete the course and pre-employment screening, you will be paid for the hours you spent in the class!

Patrons may cancel their participation in a program at any time and are encouraged to provide as much notice as possible. All refunds will be assessed a 6% ActiveNet processing fee. Patron account credits will not be charged this fee.
Credits, transfers and refunds will be granted as follows:
Pre-registration required activities:
• 100% refund, transfer or account credit with 15 days' or more notice before activity registration closes
• 50% refund, transfer or account credit with 7-14 days' notice before activity registration closes
• No refund, transfer or credit with 6 days or less before activity registration closes.
Drop-in activities:
• 100% refund, transfer or account credit prior to the start of the activity
• No refund, transfer or credit after activity has started
