About This Activity

Are you new to sailing? The Learn to Sail class is perfect for those with little or no sailing experience (ages 8-18). Sailors are divided into age groups and head to sea on an Ideal 18 keelboat skippered by an MSA instructor. The foremost goal of Learn to Sail is to develop a love for being on the water and the magic of being under sail. MSA instructors will slowly introduce each sailor to one aspect of sailing at a time and let them learn each skill at their own pace in a comfortable environment while having fun with friends! This format ensures that all students will master the basics of sailing, regardless of their prior experience or confidence level. Students will learn about the parts of the boat, basic rigging concepts, how to find the wind, basic sail trim, and boat safety. There will be both on-water and off-water instruction. This class is best for sailors with no prior sailing experience. After completing one session of Learn to Sail, students will be ready to progress to the Beginner Opti (ages 8-14) or Beginner C420/Laser Class (ages 13-18), depending on their interests.
