About This Activity

Get ready to play! Players will be assigned to teams for this 8 game season. All games will take place at Joe Dancer Park. Practices scheduled by volunteer coaches (after coaches meeting). Practices may take place at Joe Dancer or the surrounding parks/schools. Leagues may be combined depending on registration numbers. Registration deadline is February 7th. Players will be contacted by coaches beginning March 2nd. Games begin on March 14.
Volunteer coaches are needed - please contact rachel.kaplan@mcminnvilleoregon.gov if you are interested. Background check and concussion training are required (no cost to the coach).
Coaches' meeting will take place on February 25th (details will be sent to coaches. Coaches will contact players after the coaches meeting. If you do not hear from the coach by March 2nd, you can call the Community Center at 503.434.7310).
Soccer Cleat Swap- March 2nd, 6-7p at the Community Center, bring a pair of cleats to swap!
League Structure (field size is approximate):
Kindergarten and 1st grade
- Separate boys and girls league playing 4 v 4, no goalie, no offside, 20 x 25 yd field. Teams will use a split field method—each team splits into two teams and plays on fields side by side against an opposing split team.
2nd - 3rd grade
- Separate boys and girls league playing 7 v 7, no offside, 30 x 55 yd field.
4th - 6th grade
- Separate boys and girls league playing 7 v 7, offside in effect, 42 x 65 yd field.
Everyone Plays
- Our goal is for kids to play soccer, so every player on every team plays in every game. It’s no fun to spend the game on the bench and that’s no way to learn soccer!
Open Registration
- Our program is open to all children starting kindergarten through 6th grade who want to register and play soccer. There are no try-outs and nobody gets cut.
Positive Coaching
- Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment for the players and leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players. A coach can be one of the most influential people in a child’s life, so we encourage them to create a positive experience for every player.
Good Sportsmanship
- We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win at all cost attitude. Our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship among others.
No pre-kindergarten players allowed. Players must wear shinguards for all games and practices.
