Join first grade teacher, Joren Erickson, and other Kindergarten friends as we explore chess this fall! This camp is for beginners and experienced players alike. We’ll learn the basics like how the pieces move, check and checkmate as well as play games with friends. The benefits of learning chess can’t be understated. Studies have shown that chess can help develop creative thinking and problem solving skills. Chess requires concentration and strategic thinking and gives kids the opportunity to practice and strengthen these skills. Like many games, it can also build character by developing patience, facing challenges appropriately, and learning to play fairly. When we need a break we’ll play one of the many chess variations like Knock Out, Bughouse, Dice Chess, Losers Chess, King of the Hill, and of course Food Chess!
