About This Activity
Prerequisites: Minimum 2 years at the Intermediate level is mandatory. Students MUST be proficient in skippering and crewing across all points of sail without supervision. Students will be assessed on the first day of class by the instructors. If deemed necessary instructors will move students to a different level class if space is available (classes typically sell out) and/or refund tuition. Classes run Monday - Thursday from 1:30-4:30 and also a Friday Regatta from 11am - 2pm. Racing class sail Laser Performance 420s purchased from the US Naval Academy by Piscataqua Youth Sailing Association - PYSA (who partners with KPYC). PYSA also supports the local high school teams. This course will cover Racing Fundamentals as governed by the US Sailing Rules of Racing 2021-2024. Each class will be comprised 6-8 Vanguard 420 teams that practice starting, upwind and downwind match racing tactics Monday thru Thursday and then compete in a 5 to 7 race regatta every Friday. Trophies will be awarded at the end of each session. The top 2 teams from each session will compete at end of the year for the KPYC Hampton Cup Junior Championship. Our young racers will also be invited and encouraged to attend local area events including the big boat Commodore Cup Weekend Series
