1 Thursday, September 10, 5:00 - 7:00 pm Middle School Art - Picasso Taught by Jodi Morello, 11-14 Each student will create a project based upon the work of a specific artist, one per week: Pablo Picasso, (Sept) Jean-Michel Basquiat (Oct), and Keith Haring (Nov). Come to one or all three! During the first week we will be creating original drawings in the Cubist style of Picasso, the second week will have students draw works reflecting the graffitied techniques of Basquiat, and the third week will find students drawing in Haring's simplistic yet frenetic approach. Each week, students will see a PowerPoint which includes examples of the artist's work, as well as examples of previous student works. They will create projects based on the works of the artist in either colored pencil or marker. It will not be a copy of the work, but the student's creation in the style of the artist. The Newark Arts Alliance will retain a $5 cancellation fee if a student withdraws from a class. Jodi knew by the age of five that she wanted to be an artist and sold her first work at fourteen (a batik) to a school librarian after receiving a stern shushing. She later studied woodcut with master printmaker Antonio Frasconi because writing term papers is vastly overrated. She has degrees in fine arts, interior design, and art history.She is a retired NYC art teacher and interior designer who taught herself to weave during the pandemic.
