1 Saturday, October 11 - 3:00-5:00 pm Improv Drum and Zill Squad Taught by Becky Sullivan, 16+* $22 Member / $44 Non-member Want to participate in a drum or open dance event, but not know what to play? Want to practice with drums and finger cymbals (aka zills)? Learn middle eastern rhythms, finger cymbal patters, and rhythm instrument improvisation methods. Dance with your instruments, or sit and play. Drums and finger cymbals will be available to borrow. Bring a percussion instrument is you have one (a drum, finger cymbals, etc.) *12-15 year olds may attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Newark Arts Alliance will retain a $5 cancellation fee if a student withdraws from a class. Becky (aka Lorelei) has been studying many types of music and dance since she was 7. She began reading sheet music in 3rd grade and started music training on flute in 4th grade. She added Middle Eastern dance, rhythms, and percussion (zills and drum) to her repertoire over the last 12 years. She also performs Middle Eastern Bellydance under the name Lorelei. She has completed Integrations 1 in the Salimpour School of Dance, and is certified to teach Fundamentals 1 and 2.
