Chess Club is directed at fostering rigorous, self-motivated growth within children in all areas of their chess development. Carlos focuses on enjoyment and empathy first, with the goal of nurturing the natural desire for discovery, knowledge, insight, understanding, and, most importantly, play. Carlos helps children acquire the basic skill sets and thought processes used to play chess strategically and efficiently, using themes and patterns to build their chess vocabulary. Chess Club will focus on students increasing their chess intuition and feel for the principals of the game. As students gain chess knowledge, the lessons become more personalized, with game analysis, suggestions on where and how students can improve upon mistakes, and guided practice built to expand their chess repertoire. Each week, students will focus on chess questions and problems to be solved, along with questions about internal processes. Carlos makes use of fun and engaging mini games and chess variants, workbooks, and other learning tools to practice new ideas and expand students’ interests. Students will also learn about current events in the chess world. Each student will create their own chess progress book, and can earn stickers and other cool chess stuff on their journey to chess excellence.
