About This Activity

Co-ed Chess class is designed for students who were in a previous Starters class or with some knowledge and teaches important opening concepts, recognition of tactical themes, calculation of material exchanges, and elementary endgame. Students of the class can also participate in training games with other participants. In addition to learning the fundamentals of chess, this class will promote the growth and development of skills in concentration, logic, decision making, planning, and self-discipline.
Please bring a water bottle and wear appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes.
If a class is cancelled, the makeup session will be tentatively scheduled one week after the final class date.

Refunds must be made in writing 14 calendar days prior to the start of the activity.
A $10 Processing Fee applies to each activity cancellation requested by the participant.
NO REFUNDS will be made for requests received LESS THAN 14 calendar days prior to the start of the activity.
If your child requires medication during program hours, a Medication Waiver must be completed for them to use the medication and/or receive assistance administering it while in the program. This includes items such as EpiPens, inhalers, and other prescribed medications. If this is not noted under Special Accommodations during registration, please email Krissy Marquez at Christine.marquez@sanjoseca.gov to communicate your child’s medication needs. This is a City-wide policy to ensure the safety and proper care of all participants during program hours.
