Spotlight Community Players: MAD-LIB THEATRE! Ages 8-13.What do you get when you cross a __________ with a ___________?
A brand-new comedy show with scenes built by the cast, and nobody finds out what it's
about until the blanks get filled in!
Over four sessions, actors create an original showcase from a series of fill-in-the-blank
prompts. They invent the characters, name the places, find the plot, and then work out
how to translate all of it onto the stage.
Underneath the insanity, students practice the real thing: improv fundamentals, basic
stage craft, listening to a scene partner, and performing material they wrote themselves.
Because the whole show is made of the group's own ideas, there's no audition, nothing
to memorize from someone else's script, and no wrong answer to give. First-timers and
seasoned hams are welcome!
No previous acting experience is necessary!
All we ask is a willingness to say yes to a strange idea and find out where it goes!
Rehearsals: Tuesday-Thursday: October 13-15 4:30-6:30pm at Scituate REC Multi-Purpose Room
Dress Rehearsal: Friday, October 16 4:30-6:30pm at GAR Hall, 353 Country Way, Scituate
Show: Saturday, October 17 7:00pm at GAR Hall, 353 Country Way, Scituate
Actors arrive at 6:00pm and doors open to the audience at 6:30pm. Show begins at 7pm.

Instructor: Tyler Cavanagh
Tyler is an arts educator with more than 20 years of experience working with youth of all
ages and abilities. He sees the arts as a lens that allows us to explore the world around
us in a meaningful way, building community through inclusion and education in the arts.
Tyler focuses on translating the skills we learn in the studio into other aspects of our
lives, allowing the arts to become a pervasive part of our wholistic being and helping
our young people develop the “soft-skills” necessary to excel in a way that encourages
critical thinking and active reflection.
Tyler holds a B.A. in Music from Westfield State University. While at WSU, Tyler served as
the Production and Administrative Intern at Dever Stage, was a board member and
active participant in the WSU Musical Theatre Guild, produced an opera outreach
program to four elementary schools in the Greater Westfield area, and performed as a
concert soloist for the Greater Westfield Choral Association. For several years he
developed and directed a youth theatre program and ArtsCamp at Laura’s Center for
the Arts in Hanover, focusing on education, inclusion, and social responsibility.
Currently Tyler is the Co-Executive Director of St. Stephen’s Youth Programs in Boston’s
South End and serves on the board and faculty at Spotlight Music and Theater Academy. Tyler has performed with many local community music and theatre groups including
Hingham Civic Music Theatre, Riverside Theatre Works, The Hingham Singers, Braintree
Choral Society, Priscilla Beach Theater, to name a few. In his free time he loves to pursue
creative arts projects, visiting museums and galleries, and supporting live theatre as much
as possible!
