The Sail Sand Point c420 team is intended for sailors who are already proficient in racing double-handed boats such as cFJs, V15s, or c420s (no spinnaker/trapeze), and want to take their double-handed racing to the next level. The c420 is an Olympic Pathway class sailed throughout the US which establishes sailors with numerous high-performance racing skills. The SSP summer c420 team is structured around the Northwest Youth Racing Circuit, which consists of 5 major regattas beginning in June and finishing in early September. Please see the NWYRC website for the regatta schedule. Sailors will learn how to operate a double-handed boat with a spinnaker and trapeze, including skills such as fine-tuning boat speed, roll tacks and gybes, tacks and gybes on a trapeze, rigging a spinnaker, spinnaker sets and douses, properly trimming a spinnaker, gybe-sets, and mark roundings with a spinnaker. Sailors may sail with the same partner all season, but depending on availability, the coaches may switch up boat pairing throughout the season. Sailors are expected to attend two practices each week as well as at least two regattas throughout the summer. Please contact the SSP Head Coach (alec@sailsandpoint.org) for more details.
