About This Activity
The Sail Sand Point FJ team is intended for sailors who have already completed several sailing classes or camps, and want to learn advanced sailing skills and start to race in a friendly and supportive environment. The FJ is a 14 foot double-handed dinghy that is sailed throughout the US, and is a great platform boat for beginning racers. The SSP summer FJ team is structured around the Northwest Youth Racing Circuit, which consists of 5 major regattas beginning in June and finishing in early September. Please see the NWYRC website for the regatta schedule. Sailors will learn how to operate a double-handed boat with no spinnaker or trapeze, including skills such as rigging for specific wind conditions, roll tacks and gybes, how to start properly, mark-roundings, basic race strategy, and teamwork within the boat. Sailors are expected to attend two practices each week as well as at least two regattas throughout the summer. Please contact the SSP Head Coach (alec@sailsandpoint.org) for more details.
