The Sail Sand Point ILCA (Laser) team is intended for sailors who are already comfortable racing boats such as FJs or Optimists and want to continue racing in single-handed dinghies. Sailors should weight a minimum of 105 pounds to being in the ILCA. The ILCA is an Olympic Pathway class sailed throughout the world which establishes sailors with numerous high-performance racing skills. The SSP summer ILCA team is structured around the Northwest Youth Racing Circuit, which consists of 5 major regattas beginning in June and finishing in early September. Please see the NWYRC website for the regatta schedule. Sailors will learn how to sail a single-handed dinghy that rewards athleticism, excellent boat-handling and trimming techniques, as well as tactical and strategic reasoning. The ILCA class uses 3 different rig sizes (4/6/7) on one hull, supporting sailors from 100-180 pounds. Sailors are expected to attend two practices each week as well as at least two practices throughout the summer. Please contact the SSP Head Coach (alec@sailsandpoint.org) for more details.
