About This Activity
The Sand Point Opti Team (SPOT) caters to sailors learning the Optimist dinghy, the most widespread youth dinghy in the world. Sailors between the ages of 10 through 14 are eligible to participate, although we recommend a weight range of 65-110 pounds. SPOT is focused on improving our sailing skills, having fun, and learning to work as a team! Although most Optimist regattas in the Northwest are in the summer, there may be opportunities in the fall and spring. Sailors looking to join the advanced SPOT group should have racing experience, through participation in another racing group or regattas. A good baseline is being able to rig and derig a boat confidently, understanding how to perform a race start, and being able to sail around a race course quickly.
