Beginner - Intermediate Chess: Students with a little chess playing experience are invited to join other developing chess players in fun game play. Students will learn new chess ideas and steadily improve their decision-making skills. Students explore opening ideas, middle game tactics, and end game strategy in class through hands-on play. Students will be introduced to historically important games and given the opportunity to practice these observed strategies in their own games. Students are encouraged to practice their chess and participate in selected chess tournaments during the chess season with our friendly and encouraging Thurgood Marshall Chess Team. This club is a useful launching pad for students seeking to pursue the development of science, math, and computer skills. Girls and boys are encouraged to build up their decision-making skills while gaining facility in logical thinking for success in STEM subjects. More info: http://www.seattlechessschool.org.
