This class is for beginner and intermediate sailors; for anyone who can swim and wants to learn to sail. Beginners will learn the basics of sailing and safety on the water, while intermediate sailors will improve their boat handling skills and increase their experience. The session will be divided according to age, experience, and skill level. Instructors are trained to maximize fun, safety, and boating etiquette. Instruction for intermediate sailors is in Optimist (Opti) and Flying Junior (FJ) sailboats. • Optis are 8’ prams with one sail designed to be sailed by one person up to 120 pounds. Most kids under 11 years old or under 100 pounds should sail an Opti. • FJs are 14' dinghies with three sails: a main sail, a jib, and spinnaker. They are sailed with two sailors. Sailors over 120 pounds or over 13 years of age will likely sail FJs.
