About This Activity

Algae is an important part of aquatic food chains, but too much of it can become a big slimy problem, especially on coral reefs. Not to worry though, algal grazers like crabs, urchins, and snails are here to help! These unsung ocean heroes are the stars of this camp. Through hands-on activities, lab simulations and behind the scenes tours, campers will learn about a variety of different critters that help keep algae under control and the vital role they play in coral restoration. This camp is for rising 4th - 8th graders and is hosted at Mote's International Center for Coral Reef Research & Restoration in Summerland Key, Florida. PLEASE NOTE: This program takes place at our laboratory location in the LOWER FLORIDA KEYS (NOT in Sarasota). Refunds will NOT be issued if registered for the wrong location.
