Pierce County Parks is thrilled to collaborate with Pacific Lutheran University and No More Under, a water-safety nonprofit, to deliver the Swim Safely Series. This program will take place March 2nd – March 6th, 6:30-7:30p.
This free program is a five-day learn-to-swim initiative designed to support youth aged 5 to 18 in learning water survival and safety skills. The PLU Swim and Dive team will lead the instruction, with classes held at the university’s aquatic facility. – located at 849 124th St. S. Tacoma, WA 98444.
Swimming is a life skill, and everyone deserves the opportunity to learn. The Swim Safely Series aims to remove barriers and encourage families to engage in aquatics for the very first time as well as teach water safety to children in the community to prevent drownings. This program is limited to youth who have never had swimming lessons and who currently do not have any swimming ability.
The program is delivered over five consecutive days and is meant to serve as an introduction to water safety education and skills. Participating families are then connected to local swim schools to encourage their continued learning and development of swimming skills after the Swim Safely Series concludes.
Participants will receive a swim bag, swim cap, and goggles.
Benefits of Swim Safely Series include but are not limited to – providing families with equitable access to swimming lessons, improving equity, diversity and inclusion in aquatics, and empowering collegiate swimmers with skills to teach water safety lessons.
Registration includes all five dates offered, March 2nd – March 6th and is limited to the first 48 participants. Participants are highly encouraged to attend all five days.
