About This Activity
Description
Interested in becoming a lifeguard? Pima County offers an in depth Junior Lifeguard program designed to prepare kids between the ages of 11-15 to become future lifeguards.
The Jr. Lifeguard program does not certify participants in first aid, CPR or AED or as a lifeguard but will introduce the participants to:
- The skills needed to take a Lifeguarding Course
- Communication and decision making skills
- The basic responsibilities of a lifeguard
- The basic knowledge and skills required to be a lifeguard
- The skills necessary to assist with swim lesson instruction.
Upon completion of the class, Junior Lifeguards will have a variety of opportunities to work alongside Pima County Lifeguards/Instructors assisting with swim lessons, helping at swim meets and other special events.
Program Pre-Requisites:
- Must be 11 years old before June 17th, 2024
- Must be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing with face in the water.
- Must be able to tread water in the deep end of the pool for one minute.
To ensure our students get the most out of the program, each of the NRPR pools offering the program will be limiting participation to just 10 students per session.
