About This Activity
Description
To enter this level, swimmers MUST be safe in deep water. They should understand and perform basic front and back techniques learned in previous levels and must demonstrate skills equivalent to the Proficient Swimmer level, which include:- Jump or dive into deep water, then tread water or float for 30 seconds before swimming on front or back for 15 yards
- The following skills should be demonstrated over 15 yards:
- Travel on front using alternating arm strokes and beginning rhythmic breathing (Front Crawl)
- Travel on front using simultaneous arm and leg motion (breaststroke)
- Travel on back using simultaneous arm and leg movements (elementary backstroke)
- Travel on back using alternating arms and legs (back crawl)
Main goal for this level: Swimmers will build endurance and continue to develop proper techniques for Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke, and Elementary backstroke. Swimmers are introduced to the butterfly and sidestroke.
