About This Activity

Description

This level is for swimmers who are not afraid of the water and are beginning to move more independently. Swimmers must be able to put their face in water comfortably, and be able to locomote on front and back (“reach and pull” and “circle” arms) with equipment support. They must also be able to perform all Emerging Swimmer skills, which include:
- Independent pool entry using ladder, seated slide-in, or a jump
- Face submerged in the water for 3 seconds
- Blowing 5 bubbles with the face submerged
- Forward movement (“reach and pull” and “circle” arms) using equipment for 5 yards, without Instructor support
- Backward movement (“reach and pull” and “circle” arms) using equipment for 5 yards, without Instructor support

Main goals for this level: Swimmers can move with proper body alignment using equipment, without needing instructor assistance, and are able to keep their face in the water.

Additional Skills:
- Comfortable full head submersion
- Eyes open underwater
