About This Activity
Description
Ages 8-13
Theory Level 1 is designed to help young musicians develop sight-reading, rhythm, listening, and composition skills. Topics include counting rhythms, reading notes on the staff, scales, key signatures, intervals, chords, and musical signs and terms. Students compose a short melody as a final project.
This class corresponds to Level 1 of Levine’s keyboard-skills curriculum. However, the music theory skills taught in this class have broad application to students who play any instrument. Please consult the Music Theory Syllabus (link) for a complete description of the skills taught in Theory Level 1.
This online class will hold live sessions over Zoom. Students will also have access to an innovative online classroom that provides easy access to course lessons and communication between students and instructors. Integrated instructional software helps students build musical fluency in an interactive environment.
A placement test for Level 1 is not required. Register for an online placement test (link) to determine whether a student should be placed directly a higher level. After completing the test, you will receive a class recommendation and registration link from the Department Chair.
For more information please contact the Department Chair at emeier@levinemusic.org.
