About This Activity
Opti Learn to Race is the next step for young Rec camp sailors. Geared for experienced sailors aged 8-12, learning the basics of racing starts here! Class runs full days for two weeks, 9am-4pm. Towards the end of the session, sailors are encouraged to participate in local Green Fleet Regattas (Part of Twin Cities Youth Sailing — TCYS). Sign up for “Island Time” – the LMSS early drop-off/late pick-up program for drop-off at 8am and pickup at 4pm Prerequisite: Per Coach Recommendation — Recreational Camp Next Step: Per Coach Recommendation — Repeat Opti Learn to Race, Opti Intermediate/Advanced Race Team, or Spring/Fall Opti Race Team This class is taught in Opti racing sailboats, which are used locally, regionally, and nationally at regattas. Use your own Opti, or use an LMSS Opti for the duration of the session. Students will learn upwind/downwind sailing, starting sequences, mark roundings, racing rules, rigging, knot tying and general seamanship. Towards the end of the session, sailors are expected to participate in the local Green Fleet Regattas on Fridays (part of Twin Cities Youth Sailing – TCYS).
