About This Activity

Little Skippers is designed to support young sailors ages 5-6 in becoming comfortable with rigging and sailing basics while gaining confidence on the water and developing relationships with other young sailors of similar skill and experience level. Classes are short in length and offer a great starting point for LMSS Sailing. Taught in 23′ Sonar Keelboats and Pram Sailboats (sessions 8 and 9) Sonar keelboats allow 6-8 young sailors to participate together with an instructor on board Pram sailboats allow 2 – 3 young sailors to continue to grow their sailing skills in a smaller, more independent boat - Curriculum includes understanding points of sail, upwind and downwind sailing, and boat parts - Summer sessions 1-8 will take place in the morning from 9:30am – 11:30am - Summer Returning Sailor sessions 8-9 will take place in the evening from 5:00pm — 7:00pm. - Spring/Fall sessions will take place from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Fall sailors will have the opportunity to sail in Pram sailboats and continue to expand their sailing skills. 2026 Updates: Sessions 1-8: Sign up for “Island Time” – the LMSS early drop-off/late pick-up program for drop-off as at 9am and pickup at 12pm.
