Description
The Lifeguard Recertification is for those who have taken a lifeguard training course and need to renew their certifications. Course includes lecture and video review, skills practice and testing (written and skills). Upon successful completion the American Red Cross will issue certificates in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.
This class is NOT appropriate for students who have never taken the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course.
Students must have current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or certification that is no more than 30 days expired to be eligible for a Lifeguarding Review class. Must bring evidence of most recent certification to the first day of class.
Prerequisites -
Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:
A. Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed)
B. Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs
C. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both
Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
A. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed).
B. Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
C. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
D. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Certificate Issued and Validity Period
Lifeguarding/First Aid: 2 years CPR/AED/ for Lifeguards: 2 years
Participants must bring a sack lunch, swim suit, towel, water, sunscreen and water to class daily.

- Please make sure to bring a bagged lunch as we will not have much time for lunch.
- Bring a swimsuit, goggles, and one or more towels

Participants must have completed the online blended learning course prior to the first day at the pool or they will be released from the program.
