"How can you venture 20,000 leagues under the sea, fly to Neverland, and step through a looking-glass all without ever leaving Austin? By attending a camp focused on reading, of course! Join your friends this summer on a literary adventure. Together we will explore different genres and discuss reading preferences. We will peruse books from the library, check out great books, research what makes a great story, and make meaningful projects that relate to our daily themes. By the end of the week, your child will have a personally curated list of books to keep their adventures going all summer! Going deeper into the week: This camp is designed to cultivate a love of reading and is not focused on language therapy. Each day we will explore a different genre, review lots of books together and discover books to interest your child! Students will have a chance to check out and take home some of the books covered in camp to try it out on their own. We will also work on crafts and play games that tie into the lesson. The greatest outcome of the week is to inspire all readers, from those who haven’t yet found a book they are interested in (reluctant readers) all the way to the child who loves to read and is searching for new books to explore!" Alaina Hanson is the fifth grade Literature teacher at Regents and loves to read great stories. She enjoys the challenge of finding great books her fifth graders just can't put down!
