Interested in becoming a Lifeguard? American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Blended Learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency.
This course includes certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR/AED for Lifeguards and First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22 First Aid). All candidates must be 15 years of age and pass a swimming pre-test during the first class.
The purpose of this training course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. Participants must attend all sessions and pass the skills and written tests in order to receive certifications. Payment of the course fee is not a guarantee of certification.
Prerequisites include minimum age of 15, swim 300 yards using the front crawl and breaststroke, tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs, and swim 20 yards and retrieve a diving brick 7-10 feet deep in a timed setting. If you do not pass the skills evaluation, you will not be able to continue with the course.
