About This Activity

Six IN-PERSON sessions March 17, 24, 31, April 7, 14, 21 Rowing is a whole-body, non-weightbearing exercise that can be done individually or as a team. This unique six-session course will feature multiple activities in examining the sport of rowing, including its history as an Olympic sport and in Gainesville’s role in the 1996 Olympics. Each class will also include fitness activities such as stretching and mobility exercises, practicing rowing techniques on ergometers, culminating in rowing as a team on the water. Importantly, learning a new interest, especially one that includes physical activity, is known to slow cognitive decline associated with aging. Please join Coaches Howell Buot and George Ordway at Lake Lanier Rowing Club at The Boathouse at Lake Lanier Olympic Park for this exciting introduction to the sport of rowing. Howell Buot is Executive Director and Head Youth Coach at Lake Lanier Rowing Club (LLRC). He rowed at the University of Georgia and has coached and taught at various schools and rowing clubs in the state. George Ordway is a veteran BULLI instructor and LLRC instructor and coach. Both Howell and George have completed USRowing coaching certification courses.
