Explore the magical parkland owned by LARPD known as Brushy Peak Regional Preserve which is only open to the public by ranger-led tours and hike to the top of the peak!This strenuous hike to the summit covers approximately 4-miles over dirt and rocky trails with an elevation gain of 800+ feet. The hike includes an exploration of unique sandstone rock formations, an introduction to the Native Ohlone, Bay Miwok and Delta Yokuts cultures associated with the site, and an opportunity to view the plants and animals that live or visit this area.
If you'd like a Brushy Peak hike that does not include the final ascent to the peak, reducing the mileage to around 2 miles, elevation gain to around 200 feet and finishing an hour earlier, please register for the 2 Mile Brushy Peak Lowlands Hike. The lowlands hike will still explore all the incredible rock formations and cover the same topics.
Participants must stay with the group. Under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Canceled if raining. Trip time estimate 5- to 6-hours – depends on hiking speed of group and how much exciting stuff we stop to check out!
Meet at the Robert Livermore Community Center large parking lot next to the community gardens at 491 Loyola Way. Participants will then drive themselves to the non-public Brushy Peak entrance. Carpooling encouraged. [Google Map Link]

Please bring: sturdy, comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots; windbreaker and/or jacket (all weather conditions); water bottle (at least two quarts per person); hat and sunscreen (recommended); long pants and/or insect repellent (recommended) (if you choose long pants on a hot day, lightweight pants would be more comfortable than heavy pants or jeans); gaiters, rain pants etc., to keep you dry if it has rained recently; binoculars and/or hand lenses (optional); camera (optional); favorite field guides (optional); container to carry out your trash (no garbage cans at park); a pack to carry all the above.
