Curious about birds? Interested in bird watching, but not sure where to start? The educators at Rockwood Nature Center are excited to help introduce the whole family to the relaxing and peaceful pastime known as “birding.” Learn about the most common birds seen in Chesterfield County and listen to birdsongs in the classroom. Then, take to the trails to learn how to use field tools like identification guides, binoculars, bird calls, and apps like Merlin and eBird.Program information:
- Program is held outdoors and indoors.
- Guardians are required to accompany participants, no drop-offs.
- Hiking footwear is recommended. Trails have periodic benches for resting.
- It is recommended to dress participants in weather-appropriate clothing and bring a water bottle.
- Distance traveled will be between 0.5 and 1 mile.
- Outdoor surfaces traveled on in this program include: paved trails, dirt trails with roots and uneven surfaces, and creek beds.
- This program includes visual, auditory, and tactile elements.
