7 Road Trip Games for Kids

Categories

One person names a category, and an item in that category that starts with "A." For example, if the category is fruit, the player could say "apple." The next player has to answer with the next letter of the alphabet (for example, banana, coconut and so on). With smaller children, broad categories work best. Our favorites are food, fictional characters, transportation, cities and sports. This is my kids' favorite car game.

Who's the Boss

Each person gets to be in charge of the games and/or music for an hour (or a half hour for shorter trips). This is my husband's least favorite game.

Road Trip Scavenger Hunt

Give each player a list of things you might see on a road trip. The first person to mark everything off their list wins. Examples include: stop sign, mailbox, train, gas station, semi-truck, billboard, farm, grocery store, bus, police car, tollbooth, bridge, river, red car, motorcycle, etc.

Illustrations

One person reads a story, or a chapter of a book, and the kids illustrate it. This works well for family-friendly audiobooks, too. My kids love illustrating their favorite stories!
