Seeing Double
1 of 8Designed to teach passing skills, the Seeing Double drill teaches coordination, ball mastery and how to pass and receive the ball. Players pair off and begin by facing each other, each with a soccer ball. Next, players begin to exchange the ball with one another using the soles of their feet. The players continue this pattern in an effort to see how many passes they can complete.
Tri-Skills
2 of 8The Tri-Skills drill teaches young players how to dribble and turn. A small triangle is formed using cones and players are split into groups of two. The first player enters the center of the triangle and performs a dribbling move. Once the player exits the triangle they must perform a turn with the ball to face the triangle. The second player then enters and performs the same exercise. The two players continue to take turns performing moves for about 20 to 30 seconds, then rest and repeat.
Shoulder Drop
3 of 8This drill teaches players how to approach defenders. As the player approaches the defender, he or she pretends to take the ball with the outside foot stepping to one side while dropping the shoulder. Then the player takes the ball with the outside of the opposite foot, pushing off in the opposite direction, accelerating away from the defender.
Stop Turn
4 of 8Stop Turn is another move players can use when approaching defenders. Players shorten the stride to decelerate, then quickly use the foot to stop the ball and pull it behind the plant leg, pivot quickly, then with the outside of the other foot, take a second touch to get away from the defender and get the head up.
Inside Hook
5 of 8A soccer turning drill, the Inside Hook uses the inside of the foot to turn and then the outside foot to get away from the defender. As the player is about to turn they shorten their stride, decelerate, and in two touches, one with the inside of one foot and one with the outside of the other foot, the player turns and moves away in the opposite direction.
Warm-Up Wizards
6 of 8Warm-Up Wizards is a quick warm-up drill that teaches dribbling. Cones are set up in a 5-by-5 yard grid. One player begins by dribbling in the square freely for one minute. Next, the player dribbles around the first cone and then back into the square, then around a different cone. Finally the player dribbles freely using just the left foot and then just the right foot.
Explosive Footwork
7 of 8Explosive Footwork?is a drill designed to train goalies to move powerfully and quickly. Three gates are spaced two yards apart. The player starts by moving through sideways, leading with the right foot and then again with the left. The player should lift their knees powerfully over the gates using quick, small steps in between.?
