Participants may register for one lesson at a time. Enrollment in multiple lessons will result in removal from all but the first registered class. Once a session is completed, participants become eligible to register for another.Due to high call volume on registration day, staff may be unable to assist over the phone. Please ensure there are no SDrecConnect issues before the registration date.
$5 Dollar lessons are not fee waiver eligible. There are NO REFUNDS for $5 lessons.
Advanced Tot: Fundamental Skills
Ages: 3 years to 5 years
Prerequisite: All participants must be evaluated by pool staff prior to registration. Participants must successfully pass or be competent in all skills and objectives for Advanced Tot or Level 1. Returning participants need to contact pool staff to ensure the correct prerequisite skills are listed on their SDRecConnect account otherwise, ActiveNet will not allow you to register for any upper level lessons). If this is your first time registering for lessons with the City of San Diego you will need to contact pool staff to schedule a swim assessment and if needed, help create an SDRecConnect account.
Objectives: This class is designed for participants to become proficient in fundamental aquatic skills, and to introduce more advanced safety concepts and skills. Skills: Safety concepts, following directions, entering and exiting pool, breath control, rhythmic breathing, multiple front and back floats, retrieve object from chest deep water, jumping in to pool, front and back glides, front and back flutter kicking, roll over from front glide to back float, freestyle arm strokes, side breathing, and porpoise dives (pool depth permitting).

Younger children may not progress as quickly as older children because their strength, coordination, and understanding of processes are developed at individual rates. An appropriate swimsuit is required at all times. A parent or responsible adult must remain in the spectator area at all times. Swim diapers are required for children under 4 years old regardless of toilet training.It is important to enroll your child in the correct class; necessary transfers may result in the change of class days and times.
