About This Activity

Description

Level 2: Stroke Development

Ages: 6 years to 15 years

Prerequisite: Successfully pass or be competent in all skills and objectives for Advanced Tot or Level 1. Participants must be able to perform the following skills independently: breath control, rhythmic breathing, front and back floats, retrieve object from chest deep water, jumping in to pool, front and back glides, front and back flutter kicks, roll over from front glide to back float, side breathing and freestyle arm strokes.

Objectives: This class is designed for participants to master basic swimming skills, develop and coordinate strokes, and to increase stamina and pool safety awareness.

Skills: Safety concepts, rhythmic breathing, multiple front and back float combinations, retrieve object from deep water, jump into deep water, introduction to treading water, front and back glide with flutter kicking, catch-up freestyle with side breathing 15-25 yards, whip kick on back 15 yards, elementary backstroke arms 20 yards, backstroke 15-25 yards, plus various combinations of all skills.

Please be advised of the following new protocols which are implemented for your safety and the safety of others during the COVID-19 pandemic:

Individuals who exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 such as cough and fever are not allowed to enter the pool facility.

Maintain a minimum of 6-feet social distance from other swimmers and pool staff.

Only one patron or family will be allowed in the front desk area at one time. There will be designated markers placed on the ground for guidance.

Facial coverings are required, except when swimming. Make sure to wear your mask in the facility and on the pool deck at all times.

Arrive in your bathing suit, ready to swim. Locker room amenities will not be available. Showers are required before entering the water. A designated area on deck will be provided to store limited belongings.

Please bring your own water and hand sanitizer.

Please plan on exiting the facility promptly after your swim. Exit gates will be located on deck. Thank you in advance for your compliance.

The City of San Diego, Parks and Recreation Department, Aquatics Safe reopening Plan meets County of San Diego requirements and State of California guidance. Public safety is paramount.

The lifeguard has a duty to act and will violate social distancing when necessary to make and effective water rescue and provide emergency care. Pool facilities will be disinfected every hour after each wave of new swimmers. Pool equipment and high touchpoint areas such as handrails, ladders, and shower faucets etc. will be sanitized after every use.
