A parent or other responsible adult must get in the water with the student for this class. Objective: This water orientation class is designed to teach the parent or responsible adult how to safely and effectively manage their infant or toddler in the water and to teach basic water safety skills. This class uses fun and interactive activities that prepare young children for swimming skills. It is not designed to teach children to survive in the water on their own. Skills: Include safety concepts for parent and child, proper holds, entering and exiting pool, front and back floats, blowing bubbles and placing face in the water, jumping into pool, introduction of kicking and arm pulls, front and back glides, drafting and passing. Please call the Swanson Pool at (858) 552-1653 to speak with the swimming pool manager if you have any questions.
Younger children may not progress as quickly as older children because their strength, coordination, and understanding of processes are developed at individual rates. An appropriate swimsuit is required at all times. A parent or responsible adult must remain in the spectator area at all times. Swim diapers are required for children under 4 years old regardless of toilet training.
It is important to enroll your child in the correct class; necessary transfers may result in the change of class days and times. For specific information on class prerequisites or level placement, please contact staff at Swanson pool at (858) 552-1653
