U5 – Active Start Physical – Provide the environment for learning proper fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, twisting, kicking, throwing and catching. Technical – The player and the ball: Running with the ball, dribbling past players, controlling, and shooting on goal. Tactical – There is no emphasis on tactics as the players are just learning the game and within their development they are individually inclined to not want to share the ball. Mental – Fun, fascination, and building a passion for playing sport in a team environment. • Each player will receive a size 3 ball. • The emphasis will be on many touches on the ball with both feet - running with the ball, stopping and changing direction with the ball, dribbling and shooting on goal. • The session will include a 20-minute fun activity focusing on a technical development of the player (running, dribbling, shooting). • 5-minute ‘break’ followed by a 5vs5 small-sided game against the team scheduled to share the field. • Parents are encouraged to support all players during the game regardless of skill level and ability. • Equal playing time is encouraged. • Players are encouraged to be rotated in all positions including goalkeeping • Game Leaders replace referees. Game Leaders assist players/coaches with the rules of the game, in a friendly environment to encourage a love of the game and not fear or see a referee in a negative way.
