Welcome to Drill of the Week, a series on ACTIVEkids.com that explains individual and team drills for parents and coaches to help kids improve at the sports they love.
This week's drill is Warm-Up Wizards, a soccer dribbling exercise brought to you by TheDrillbook.com.
As a warm-up, the player begins in 5x5 yd grid dribbling freely for one minute. Next the player dribbles around a cone and then back into the square, then around a different cone. Finally the player dribbles freely using just the left foot and then just the right foot.
Key Teaching Points
- Let the player move freely through the area to begin.
- Encourage the use of both feet and all parts of the foot.
- Encourage frequent changes of direction using the inside, outside and bottom of the foot.
